Custom Rogers Dynasonic Snare Drum—BEAUTIFUL!
In addition to restoring vintage drum kits, a few times a year I build unique custom snare drums using mint-condition vintage shells. My strong preference is to build these custom snares using vintage Rogers USA metal shells—simply the best-sounding and best-made American drums ever. Rogers Dynasonic chrome-over-brass (COB) shells are my favorite—they’re fairly plentiful and make for terrific-sounding (and looking) custom builds. However, truly mint Dyna shells are hard to come by—the brass shells seem to absorb more than their share of abuse over the years (the youngest are over 25 years old), and most examples look it, with dents, pitting, lug footprints, chrome flaking and the like. However, a rare, truly outstanding Dyna-Sonic shell (5” x 14”) recently came my way. And I mean nice—flat and round, bright and shiny chrome, no dents, no pitting, no extra holes and just a small scratch or two you have to really look to find. Its low D-serial number Big R USA badge and lack of a tone muffler (nope, not drilled for one) suggests a 1976 provenance. All in all, about as good as a 35-year-old shell gets. I couldn’t wait to build it out. The result is one cool-looking and great-sounding Rogers-based snare, thanks to judicious parts selection, meticulous assembly and top-quality, all-new parts throughout: 2.3mm chrome-plated hoops, the excellent Dunnett R-Class throw-off (uses the stock Rogers holes), a repro Rogers butt plate (ditto), Remo Ambassador heads and the incomparable Puresound Custom 20 snare wires. And check out those lugs—unique, big and heavy, and a spot-on visual match, like they were made for the Dynasonic shell. A great look! Aside from being a sight to behold and a stunning visual enhancement to any kit, the sound is exactly what you would expect—crisp, loud and penetrating, what Rogers metal shells are famous for! This drum is surprisingly heavy, so shipping is $35.00 via UPS Ground (to the lower 48 ONLY—sorry, no AK, HI or international). If shipping is appreciably less to your address, I will refund the difference. Payment by PayPal only, verified addresses only, no zero feedback bidders, no exceptions here, sorry. Payment is due within 48 hours of the auction's end. The reserve is reasonable and is set at my cost. The actual drum is pictured, is exactly what you will receive, and will be safely and professionally packaged for shipment. I CANNOT accept returns on this item, so please check out the pictures carefully and ask questions before bidding—I generally respond VERY quickly. I have made every effort to fairly and accurately represent the item and its condition. Here's your chance to own a unique, one-of-a-kind variation of one of the best snare drums ever made. Thanks for your interest, and good luck!
